If you've chosen to share your metadata on Earthdeck, thank you! You are enabling some awesome features for animal lovers that have never been possible before anywhere! Here's how it works:
Data that is shared:
Earthdeck will report metadata (the animal species, time, and location) (if available) where wild animals were detected by earthdeck. Your actual photos are never shared, and never leave your device. Since earthdeck does even not have user accounts, and never asks for your name or email, this data is never attached to your name, email, IP address or any other info. The data is anonymous, so even our staff or a hacker are not able to see who shared which metadata.
What features are you building with this data?
- We are building ParkWolf: A website and app that displays the locations of all known animal sightings, and helps you find the best time and location to find any animal when visiting a national park! We expect this to become available in the coming weeks. Parkwolf will also include many more features for exploring national parks in the future
- We are working on a feature within Earthdeck to find any specific animal species in your area, with nuggets for the best times and locations to find them! We don't yet have a release date for this feature.
Note: Some portions of these feature may require payment, that has not yet been determined as of this writing.
Can I change my mind and/or delete the data:
Of course! You can change your data sharing setting in the app settings menu, and when you toggle it to off, you will have the option to delete existing data. This will delete any data that was uploaded by the current installation of your app within 15 minutes.
This data will never be sold or provided to any other entity. It is only used in our own apps and websites.
Thank you for helping change the game in how we experience nature! Soon it will become much easier and more accessible to experience these awesome animals in the wild.
